PCCA is excited to announce the formation of the Tri-County
A.W.A.K.E. Chapter, a health awareness group for people living in southeast lower Michigan affected by sleep
apnea. Tri-County A.W.A.K.E. is a member of the American Sleep Apnea Association, a non-profit
organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of those with sleep disordered breathing.
Tri-County A.W.A.K.E. is a free program providing support and
education for those people affected by sleep disordered breathing, their friends and family, and anyone with
questions about sleep disordered breathing and the various treatment options available.
Meetings are held on a quarterly
basis. Each meeting has an educational segment followed by a

Meet Tri-County A.W.A.K.E.'s Program Facilitator
Mike Barthel, LRT, is the Sleep Services
Coordinator for Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates, P.C. and the Tri-County A.W.A.K.E. facilitator. He
is a Licensed Respiratory Therapist with many years of experience both in the hospital setting and with home
medical equipment. Through an extended care visit with the doctor or by special appointment, Mike assists
patients with their needs regarding ongoing education, machine or mask difficulties, durable medical equipment
issues, and any insurance compliance issues. He completed the School of Respiratory Therapy at St. John
Hospital Detroit in 1988, along with additional studies at Wayne State University and Macomb Community
College. He has been with Pulmonary & Critical Care Associates, P.C., since 2010.
