What is The Great American
The Great American Smokeout is a national day of celebration hosted by the
American Cancer Society focused on encouraging people to quit smoking and quit using tobacco products, for at least
one day, with the hope that they will quit completely. This event is celebrated nationwide every year on the
third Thursday in November.
The Great American Smokeout PCCA
The Great American Smokeout at PCCA started as the idea of our Registered
Respiratory Therapist, Dawn Battani, with a single card table and a few copied pamphlets on November 21, 2002.
Through Dawn's dedication to this event and with the help of the entire St. Clair Shores staff, the event has grown
from that single card table in a hallway to a month-long celebration intent on educating and encouraging our
patients, and our patients' family members.
While our Celebrate Freedom display is found at our St. Clair Shores office, each of our 5
offices is equipped with information and resources to help you achieve freedom. Speak with your PCCA physician or
health care provider at your next appointment, or call one of our offices today.
