Samer AlSamman, M.D.
Dr. Alsamman earned his medical degree from the University of Alexandria School of Medicine in Egypt and then completed residency at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. After that, he completed his pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He is board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care.

Dr. AlSamman has a special interest in COPD and interstitial lung diseases in addition to general pulmonary medicine. He currently practices at Henry Ford St. John Hospital, Select Specialty Grosse Pointe, and Corewell Health Grosse Pointe.
Welcoming new patients, he is actively seeing patients at our Saint Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe and Shelby Township locations.
He enjoys reading history, swimming, and road trips.
Bryan Barnosky, D.O.
Dr. Bryan Barnosky specializes in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of lung diseases. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care.
Committed to Respiratory Wellness
Dr. Barnosky earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital, followed by fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York.
Expertise Rooted in Medical Education
Dr. Barnosky provides inpatient critical care services primarily at McLaren Macomb. He also serves on staff at Corewell Health Troy and Henry Ford Macomb hospitals.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Barnosky is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where is in involved in medical education and physician training.

Kimberley DeMerle, MD
Kimberley DeMerle is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, and Critical Care. She completed her medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine and her internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan. She subsequently completed her pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During her fellowship, she also earned a master's in clinical research at the University of Pittsburgh.
Caring for Every Step of Recovery
After completion of her fellowship training, she remained as faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. Her special interests include interstitial lung disease, COPD, and asthma; however, she treats all forms of pulmonary disease. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, skiing, and spending time with her family.
Laura Francis, PA-C
Laura Francis is a certified Physician Assistant specializing in critical care medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Oakland University and completed her Physician Assistant training at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Since 2009, she has been working in critical care, providing care for critically ill patients in the inpatient hospital setting.
In her free time, Laura enjoys cooking and traveling with her family, including her two children.
Laura currently sees patients at McLaren Macomb.
René Franco, M.D.
Dr. René Franco is a board-certified Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine physician with additional board certification in Sleep Medicine. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex pulmonary and sleep-related disorders.
He completed his internal medicine residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in sleep medicine at Detroit Medical Center, Wayne State University.

Dr. Franco’s clinical interests include chronic respiratory failure, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep disorders. He provides comprehensive care for the full spectrum of pulmonary diseases.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Franco serves as Associate Program Director of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at Henry Ford St. John, Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Henry Ford St. John, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Wayne State University.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Franco enjoys biking, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Christopher Hughes, M.D.
Dr. Christopher Hughes is a pulmonary and critical care physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of complex pulmonary disorders. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine.
He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at St. John Hospital. He went on to complete a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

Dr. Hughes’ clinical interests include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung disease, and chronic cough. He provides comprehensive care for the full spectrum of pulmonary conditions.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Hughes serves as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at Wayne State University. He has been a staff physician at Henry Ford St. John Hospital since 1989 and currently serves as Assistant Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Henry Ford St. John. He is also on staff at Corewell Health Grosse Pointe and Select Specialty Hospital in Grosse Pointe.

Mohammad Kousha, M.D.
Dr. Kousha received his medical degree from Tishreen University, where he proudly graduated at the top of the class. He completed internal medicine training at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, completing an internship and residency followed by an additional year as chief medical resident. He completed his pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Excellence in Critical Care Leadership
Dr. Kousha is board-certified in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine. He has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, fibrotic lung diseases, and placement of endobronchial Zephyr valves for COPD patients with advanced lung emphysema.
Dr. Kousha is the Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, the Medical Director of ICU at Corewell Grosse Pointe, and a core faculty member in the Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship Program at Henry Ford St. John Hospital.

John Lee, M.D.
Dr. John Lee is a board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician specializing in the diagnosis and management of complex pulmonary and critical illnesses.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship training in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the University of Michigan Hospitals.

Mohamed B. Mansour, M.D.
Mohamed B. Mansour, MD, is a board-certified physician in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and serves as faculty at Henry Ford St. John Hospital. His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of general pulmonary medicine, with a specialized interest in lung cancer and interstitial lung disease (ILD).
Dr. Mansour performs a comprehensive range of advanced pulmonary procedures, including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), robotic-assisted bronchoscopy for evaluation of peripheral lung nodules, and placement of indwelling pleural catheters.
A Leader in Medical Education
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Mansour is actively engaged in medical education and is committed to training residents and fellows in pulmonary and critical care medicine.

Joseph Mardelli, M.D.
Dr. Joseph Mardelli is a board-certified Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine physician specializing in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders and pulmonary disease.
He earned his medical degree from Aleppo Medical School in Syria. He completed his internal medicine residency at Our Lady of Mercy University Hospital in the Bronx, followed by fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at West Virginia University in Morgantown. He later completed a sleep medicine fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Mardelli serves as Medical Director of PCCA’s Sleep and Diagnostic Center in Roseville, as well as at McLaren Macomb and Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals. He has practiced in Michigan since 2001.
His outpatient practice encompasses the full spectrum of sleep medicine as well as pulmonary diseases.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Mardelli is happily married with three children.

Shelley Schendel, D.O.
Born and raised in the Metro Detroit area, Dr. Schendel specializes in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. She graduated with her medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, in 2005.

Dr. Schendel sees patients in the outpatient setting at the Shelby Township office. She is currently on staff at McLaren Macomb, Corewell Troy, and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.
Andrew Staricco, M.D.
Dr. Andrew Staricco is a board-certified Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine physician specializing in the diagnosis and management of complex pulmonary disease and critical illness.
He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Ascension St. John Hospital, followed by fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Staricco primarily practices at McLaren Macomb, where he serves as Medical Director of Critical Care and Respiratory Services and Coordinator of Quality Improvement for the Cancer Committee. He also serves as Program Director of Respiratory Care at Select Specialty Hospital, Macomb.
Dr. Staricco joined PCCA in 1997 and continues to provide outpatient care at our Shelby Township and St. Clair Shores locations.
Kelly Ternes, D.O.
Dr. Ternes is from Sterling Heights, Michigan. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Rochester College (now Rochester University), where she focused on interdisciplinary studies, general science, and psychiatry. She then continued her education and earned her Doctor of Osteopathy from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010. She completed her internship and residency programs in internal medicine at McLaren Macomb Hospital in 2013. Dr. Ternes completed her fellowship training in pulmonary/critical care medicine in June 2016 at McLaren Oakland Hospital.

She is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine. Amreeta Vashti Sharma, M.D.
Dr. Vashti Sharma is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine. After earning her medical degree from St. George’s University, she came to Michigan from Canada to complete an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital (St. John), followed by a pulmonary disease and critical care fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital (Main).
A Passion for Patient Education
She is dedicated to partnering with patients to be active participants in their own care by ensuring they understand their pulmonary disease. She is a faculty member of the pulmonary and critical care fellowship program at Henry Ford Hospital (St. John) and enjoys educating all levels of learners. Dr. Sharma is also committed to underserved populations and volunteers at a nonprofit primary care clinic (the MAPI clinic) that cares for uninsured patients.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially the bundle of joy they welcomed in 2025!
William Ventimiglia, M.D.

Michael Watta, PA-C
Michael is a certified Physician Assistant specializing in pulmonary medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Western Michigan University in 1992 and later completed a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of Nebraska in 2002.
Michael has been with PCCA since 2002, where he has primarily practiced pulmonary medicine at Henry Ford St. John, Detroit.
Outside of medicine, Michael is a family man who enjoys sports and spending time with his wife and children. He brings a strong competitive spirit to both his personal and professional life.
Jansi Willoughby, M.D.
Dr. Jansi Willoughby grew up in Michigan and earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, followed by a fellowship in sleep medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

John P. Willoughby, M.D.
Dr. John Willoughby is a board-certified Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine physician specializing in the diagnosis and management of complex lung disease and critical illness.
He is originally from the suburbs of Detroit. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and completed his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He went on to complete his internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama–Birmingham, followed by fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Illinois–Chicago.
His clinical interests include the full spectrum of pulmonary disease and critical care medicine. Outside of medicine, Dr. Willoughby enjoys gardening, grilling, college football, and reading.
